The Goanna Lounge

As a part of the team undertaking the remodel of the Goanna Lounge in Griffith University’s Nathan campus, my job as graphic designer was to create new signage for the lounge, and work as part of the team in designing the concept and meaning behind the space. The campus is located on the land of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera and Turrbal peoples for which the sand goanna is an important totem. We chose to keep this name to honour the traditional owners.

The logo/signage design is indicative of the many peoples who have walked this land within the colours and movements of the goanna found within the image representative of their metaphysical and spiritual presences. The flow of the letterforms speak to the goanna’s movements and stride. This ties in with the design of the seating inside that was inspired by the footprints a goanna makes in the sand.
